10 ways to use Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has taken the beauty industry by storm, but why? Because this is a little jar of huge wonders, that’s why! It’s uses are endless and I am constantly learning of new ways to use Coconut Oil. There’s only one ingredient in Vita Coco Coconut Oil and that’s it’s simply, coconut oil! It’s organic, 100% raw, cold-pressed, extra virgin coconut oil and I swear by it. The Vita Coco brand is by far my top choice if ever picking up Coconut Oil. It’s available in supermarkets everywhere so you can’t miss it!

Makeup Remover

Want an easy yet effective way to get your makeup off? Need something that will also tackle mascara and liquid eyeliner? You guessed it… Vita Coco Coconut Oil will do just the job! It is so natural that it won’t irritate the skin and can be used on eyes too. This is one I couldn’t believe till I tried so go on, try it! It’s so effective. Depending on how much makeup you have to remove, a pea size amount, warmed up between you fingers should be enough to cleanse off the days makeup.

Face & Body Moisturiser

Apply it to the face, the body, even a baby’s irritated bum… anywhere! Vita Coco Coconut Oil is one of the most naturally nourishing and moisturising products on the market. It’s organic, it’s natural, it’s raw, it’s vegan friendly, vegetarian friendly… honestly there’s nothing negative here. It will give your skin a wonderful boost of moisture, leave it super hydrated and actually gives it a lovely glow. It’s even a perfect natural source of moisture to the skin if you’ve been sun burnt. Just remember it is an oil so a little goes a long way. You don’t want to be swimming in oil as it melt into the skin!

The best treatment for my hair is layering it with Vita Coco Coconut oil. Brush out your hair, melt coconut oil in the palms of your hands and apply a generous layer to your hair. Try to avoid the roots but apply generously to the ends. I find it most effective when it is done at night time. Tie your hair up loosely, allow the goodness soak into the hair and wash it out with your usual shampoo & conditioner the next morning. Super soft and silky hair is guaranteed!

Face & Body Scrub

To make a facial scrub, take a euro coin size of coconut oil in your hands, heat between your fingers till it’s spreadable and throw in some himalayan crystal salt and massage onto the face using small circular motions for a super deep exfoliation. To make a body scrub, take a larger amount and heat between the palms of your hands till soft. But, instead of using salt use sugar to create a body scrub. Again, use circular motions putting more pressure onto the skin going upwards to help stimulate fresh blood supply to the skin while getting rid of dry dead skin. The quantity of both the salt and the sugar depend on how deep of an exfoliation you want. Want a light exfoliation? Just add a little. For a deeper exfoliation, just add more!

Instead of shaving foams that, well lats face it, can actually irritate the skin thanks to their copious amounts of chemicals, rub in some coconut oil. It softens the skin and lifts the hair for a closer & smoother shave. This is a great tip for the lads too as not only will it protect the skin from shaving, it will leave a moisturising effect on the skin afterwards.

Massage Oil

Coconut oil is the perfect choice for a massage oil. Not too greasy and with a relaxing scent. Heat it up between the palms of your hands to malt it for a super relaxing massage.

Cooking & Baking

Some oils are actually unsafe to cook with at high temperatures, not to mention have serious health benefits if used in large amount and too often. So, coconut oil is a great alternative. From frying an egg, greasing oven baked foods to baking cakes or breads. Whereever you add oil, substitute it with coconut oil and you’re taking the healthier alternative!

Coconut Popcorn

Here’s something very different… instead of melted butter on your popcorn, melt a little coconut oil and pour it over your popped popcorn and sprinkle lightly with Himalayan crystal salt. NOM!

Coconut Coffee

Instead of a heap of sugar in your coffee, add a spoonful of Vita Coco Coconut Oil to your coffee. Not only is a delicious way to start your day, but it’s actually a great energy boost too! If you have a few minutes, use a hand blender to mix in the coconut oil… it’s now a fancy frothy coconut coffee!

Oil Pulling

I’m not gonna lie, oil pulling grosses me out a little and does take some getting use to. Basically, you swish coconut oil around in your mouth for 10 minutes before brushing your teeth. It’s an old Indian folk tradition that’s suppose to improve oral health & hygiene while strengthening teeth & gums. But nowadays people do this mainly to help whiten teeth.
